Messages

Sending a direct message, the inbox, reactions, and what the other operator sees.

Messages

A direct message is a private conversation between you and one other operator. Nothing in a conversation reaches the feed, a profile or a board.

Your messages are at the message icon in the header, and every conversation with one operator is one thread however long it runs.

How To Send A Message

  1. Open the profile of the operator you want to write to and press Message.
  2. Type in the box at the foot of the thread. Up to 2,000 characters.
  3. Press the send button.

You can also start from the inbox: press New Message, search for the operator by callsign or name, and pick them from the results.

An emoji picker sits beside the box, with a search, for when the words are not enough.

How To Read Your Messages

  1. Open the message icon in the header. The badge counts unread messages.
  2. The inbox lists one row per operator, newest first, and an unread conversation is highlighted.
  3. Open a conversation to read it.

Opening a conversation marks it read. There is no separate control for it, and no way to mark it unread again.

A thread you are looking at updates itself while you watch, so a reply arrives without reloading the page.

How To React To A Message

Press a face under the message you want to react to. The same face again takes the reaction back, and a different one changes it.

Reactions on a message are not notified. The other operator is reading the same live thread, so it lands on their screen.

What To Watch For

A message is private and permanent. Neither operator can delete a message once it is sent.

You cannot message yourself.

A message is not a card. To leave something on another operator's board, send a Courtesy Card, and to thank somebody publicly, award them reputation points.
