Claiming A Club Page
What an unclaimed club page is, how to claim one, and what happens to its members when a claim is approved.
Claiming A Club Page
Many club pages on QSL Shack were created from public club records rather than by the clubs themselves. A page like that is unclaimed: it is listed, operators can find it and join it, but nobody from the club is running it.
Claiming a page hands it to somebody who can. A claim is reviewed by the QSL Shack administrators rather than approved automatically, because the page carries the club's name and callsign.
You do not have to be the trustee of record. An authorized representative may claim a page, and if the trustee later claims it, the page is transferred to them.
How To Claim A Club Page
- Open the club page. An unclaimed page carries a Claim This Page button.
- Press it. If you are not signed in, the button reads Sign In to Claim and brings you back here afterwards.
- Enter your callsign, which is filled in from your account.
- Enter the trustee name for the club.
- Enter a contact email and, if you want, a contact phone.
- Add the club website if the club has one.
- Use Additional Notes for anything that helps confirm the claim, such as your position in the club.
- Press Submit Claim.
The page then shows that your claim is awaiting review, with the date you sent it, and the form is replaced until the claim is answered. One claim per person per page.
What A Claim Changes For Existing Members
Operators who joined the club while it was unclaimed were approved provisionally and were told at the time that this would happen.
When the claim is approved, those memberships go back to pending, and the new owner approves or declines each one from the club's Members tab. Nobody is removed from the club, and nobody has to apply again.
That is why an unclaimed club's membership list is worth reading before you take it over: the people on it chose your club before anybody was there to answer.
A claim also opens the club's feed. An unclaimed club has no feed, so that nobody can post where nobody can moderate. Once the claim is approved, the club gets its Feed tab, open to its approved members, and the owner and any Managers look after it.
What To Watch For
Claiming is not the same as creating. A club you create is yours from the moment you create it and needs no claim.
A club callsign belongs to one page. If the page you want to claim carries a callsign you recognize, it is the right page. Creating a second page for the same club is refused by the callsign rule, and covered on Groups And Clubs.
Allow time for the review. A claim is read by an administrator, and the page tells you it is waiting rather than going quiet.
