Events
Finding hamfests, contests and exam sessions, marking your interest, and posting an event of your own.
Events
The events calendar carries hamfests, contests, exam sessions, special event stations, field days, club meetings and training, from operators and clubs across the site. It is at Community, then Events.
Every event carries its own timezone, so a start time reads correctly wherever you are.
How To Find An Event
- Go to Community, then Events.
- Choose a tab. Upcoming is everything ahead, This Week is the next few days, Online is events with no venue, and Local puts the events nearest you first.
- Filter by category if you are after one kind.
The calendar lists twelve events to a page, soonest first. Local sorts, it does not filter: events in your own state lead, then the rest of your country, then online events, then everywhere else. It reads the country and state on your account, so filling those in sharpens the order — nothing is hidden from the tab either way.
How To Mark Yourself Interested
- Open the event.
- Press Mark as Interested.
The button then reads Interested and the count on the event goes up. Press it again to take it back. Interested events are listed on your own profile under Events, so the calendar doubles as your own shortlist.
How To Post An Event
- Go to Community, then Events, and press the button to add one.
- Enter the title and choose a category.
- Enter the start date and time, and the timezone the event is held in. An end time is optional and must be after the start.
- Tick This is an online event and give the joining address, or fill in the venue, address, city, state and zip.
- Add the description, the cost, the event website, a registration address and a closing date for registration, as they apply.
- Add a picture if you have one. JPG or PNG, under 5 MB.
- Submit it.
The start time must be in the future. An event posted into the past is refused with that reason.
What Happens After You Submit An Event
A verified member's event is published immediately and you land on it.
Everybody else's event waits for review. The screen says so, and the event appears on the calendar once an administrator approves it.
Promotion and Announcement are advertiser categories. Only a verified advertiser account may post in them, and an event in one of those categories is always reviewed, whoever posts it. Editing an ordinary event into one of those categories sends it back for approval.
You may edit or delete your own event at any time from the event itself.
What To Watch For
The timezone is the event's, not yours. Enter the time as the organizer would announce it, with the timezone it is held in, and QSL Shack shows every visitor the right local time.
An online event needs its joining address, and it appears under the Online tab rather than under a state.
Only approved events are listed. An event of yours that is waiting is reachable from your own profile rather than from the calendar.
