Your Callsigns
Adding callsigns to one account, what the primary callsign decides, and what you certify.
Your Callsigns
A callsign is what ties your account to the amateur service. Most of what QSL Shack does is built around one: a logbook belongs to a callsign, a QSL card belongs to a callsign, and a contact is confirmed, exchanged and sent to QRZ or LoTW under the callsign its logbook logs with.
One account holds all of your callsigns. A second callsign is never a second account. Add it, give it its own logbook and its own card, and everything else carries on as it was.
Callsigns are managed at Account Settings, under Callsigns.
How To Add A Callsign
- Go to Account Settings.
- Under Callsigns, type the callsign into Add a callsign and press Look Up.
- Read the record that comes back and check it is the right licensee. Correct the country of license if it is wrong.
- Tick the certification. It reads: I certify that I am the official licensee on record for this callsign, its trustee, or otherwise authorized to operate it. I understand that providing false information may result in my account being terminated.
- Press Add this callsign.
The certification deliberately admits a trustee or an authorized operator, so a club station or a callsign you are licensed to operate can be added honestly. Adding a callsign you are not entitled to operate is grounds for the account being closed.
If the record shown is not you, press Not me rather than continuing.
How To Change Your Primary Callsign
- Go to Account Settings.
- Under Callsigns, press Make Primary on the callsign you want.
- Confirm.
Your primary callsign is the one shown on your profile, on your posts and messages, and in your profile address. Changing it changes your profile address, and links to your old address still reach you.
The callsign marked Primary is the only one that carries a badge. The rest sit below it with their license class and expiry where the register supplies them.
How To Give A Callsign A Logbook
Every logbook belongs to one of your callsigns, and a callsign does not have to have one. Create it when you want it, from Creating And Managing Logbooks.
A callsign with no logbook can still hold a QSL card and appear on your profile. It simply has nowhere to file contacts.
What To Watch For
A callsign cannot be moved between logbooks. The callsign is chosen when a logbook is created and is fixed for the life of the book, because every confirmation, card exchange and upload made under that book depends on it.
License class and expiry come from the register, not from you. Where a register supplies them, they are shown against the callsign.
Expiry reminders are a setting. Turn License Expiration Reminders on or off under Email Notifications in Account Settings.
