Viewing And Editing A QSO

The QSO record page, comments and notes, visibility, the certificate, and editing or deleting a contact.

Overview

Every contact has its own page, which shows everything recorded about it, the certificate once it is confirmed, what each integration has done with it, and the controls that change it.

Open it with the eye icon on any row of your logbook. The page is also where Exception Report rows and notifications send you.

Some of the page is yours alone. Another operator opening a public contact sees the contact and the certificate, and does not see your notes, your visibility control, or the status of your integrations.

What Is On The QSO Record Page

The certificate, once the contact is confirmed. Before it is, that space reads Awaiting the other operator and tells you it will confirm by itself when the other operator logs their side.

QSO, the contact itself: callsign, date, time, band, mode, frequency and the reports exchanged.

Their station and My station, the locations, grid squares and details of both ends, including the distance and bearing.

References, any park, summit, island or contest reference carried by the contact.

QSL evidence, what other services say about it.

The two QSL cards exchanged on the contact, once it is confirmed.

Comment and Notes.

QRZ Status and LoTW Status, when you have that integration connected.

Visibility, and then the Edit and Delete controls.

How To Edit A Comment Or A Note

The comment and the notes are two different things and the page says so on each one.

The comment is used on the QSL card. The other operator sees it.

The notes are private. Nobody else ever sees them, on a public contact as much as a private one.

  1. Open the contact.
  2. Under Comment or Notes, press Edit comment or Edit notes.
  3. Type, and press Save comment or Save notes.

Notes can be edited at any time, including on a confirmed contact, because they are not part of the record the two of you agreed on. A comment can only be edited while the contact is still pending, because once it is confirmed it is on a card that has been exchanged.

A long comment may be shortened on the QSL card to fit the design. The whole comment is always kept on the contact itself.

How To Change Who Can See A Contact

  1. Open the contact.
  2. Under Visibility, switch Show this QSO on my public logbook on or off.
  3. Press Save visibility.

Private keeps the contact off your public logbook. It does not affect confirmation, it does not hide the contact from the operator you worked, and your notes are private under either setting.

How To Edit A Contact

  1. Open the contact and press Edit, or press the pencil on its row in your logbook.
  2. Change what needs changing. Every field from the logging form is here, and you can move the contact to another logbook if you keep more than one.
  3. Press Save.

Editing a contact that has already been sent to a service is handled for you. If you change anything a service signs or stores, it is queued to go out again with the correction. A change to your private notes alone is not, because nothing outside QSL Shack has ever seen them.

A confirmed contact has no Edit control. Its data is locked, in both logs, so that every copy of the certificate matches.

How To Delete A Contact

  1. Open the contact and press Delete, or press the trash icon on its row.
  2. Confirm.

A confirmed contact has no Delete control, for the same reason it has no Edit.

How To Print Or Share A Confirmation

A confirmed contact carries a certificate that both operators share. Print the QSO page and you get the certificate sheet.

The certificate number is also the identifier in the contact's own public address, so you can link a confirmation to anyone, whether or not they are a member.

What To Watch For

The QRZ Status and LoTW Status panels tell you where this one contact stands with each service, and each links to the report that carries its errors. If a contact has not gone out, the reason is on your Exception Reports.

A distance marked as approximate was measured to the middle of the other operator's country. It is replaced with the real figure when the contact confirms and both stations' positions are known.
